Bandas are celebrating 'their independence day.' But from whom did they get their independence?
Eritrea was created from Ethiopian soil, by colonists, to dominate Ethiopia by denying it access to its own sea, and now its independence has led to separation of families, 'border' tensions, none ending military service, poverty and dictatorship.
So there is nothing much to celebrate about Eritrea's independence except the fact that it gives bandas the superiority feeling knowing that they control Ethiopia's access to the sea, just like the colonists did. But bandas should know they will continue to live in fear and true peace is impossible as long as Ethiopia is not in control of its own seacoast and ports.
